I dont cry at movies..mostly. It takes alot to hit me really emotionally in film, probably because of years of trying to bury sensitivity and try to seem less insecure. I also tend to not go for oversentimentality, but there are moments... moments that I cant watch in a film and not at least shed a tear. 1. A man leaves a classroom full of students standing on their desks and turns back to see them and simply says thank you. 2. A little boy pushes back the skin of an older mans face, simple wonderful music plays as the lights hit the mans face and the boy smiles and says Oh, there you are peter. That was all I could say earlier, but i have to say more now, just to get it out. The man in both of those moments was Robin Williams. Its amazing how someone I never met could mean so much and humbling how much I took that for granted until now. His influence on comedy and his ability to radiate gentleness, wonder and a childlike glee struck a nerve with so many, and as long as I live I dont know that Ill ever see anyone like him. He had a way of looking at you through the camera lens and hitting a chord, like he as talking directly to you and even in the films of his that I overall didnt care for, I couldnt deny that he was a presence that you wanted to watch-not just for antics or sillyness, but for genuine, wonderful vulnerability. He reached people, and the sun hangs a little lower now without him.
