I dont do many lists, but this one from my friend John W. Furst, I like. My friend writes: Heres how it works, according to The Rules: Fifteen authors (poets included) whove influenced you and who will always stick with you. List the first 15 you can recall in no more than 15 minutes. Tag at least 15 friends, including me, because Im interested in seeing what authors my friends choose. (To do this, copy this intro, paste the intro into the “body” and start your list.) Here’s my list divided between Philosophy, Business and History, though I consider them all philosophers because their writings challenged my thinking and my living: Aristotle – philosopher of the good life Apostle Paul – philosopher of divine grace Tom Morris – philosopher of success and the good life Charles Taylor – philosopher of the modern age James K.A. Smith – philosopher of postmodern religious faith Jan Baudrillard – philosopher of the postmodern age Peter Drucker – philosopher of entrepreneurism Peter Senge – philosopher of systems thinking Seth Godin – philosopher of world changing leadership Ron Burt – philosopher of social economics Jan Gunnarsson – philosopher of Hostmanship Stephen Ambrose – introduced me to Lewis & Clark Bernard DeVoto – historian of the Western US Admiral William Stockdale – philosopher of leadership in crisis John Boyd – USAF strategist of the OODA Loop I dont always follow the rules, so Im tagging 25 people whom I like to see their response.
