I dont get why so many people cant believe in the worldwide flood - TopicsExpress

I dont get why so many people cant believe in the worldwide flood as mentioned in the Bible (as well as thousands of legends from cultures around the world). I can see why they dont get that it just a bunch of rain. But the theory that sticks with me involves the water of all the oceans in the world (or most) once laying beneath the earths crust. Something then broke that crust, resulting in the weight of the world squeezing all that water out onto the land and into the atmosphere, where it eventually fell as rain over the course of forty days (since thats what flood myths generally have in common. Key points between flood legends from around the world usually include: eight people aboard a giant ship (along with all the creatures of the earth at the time); those eight being a father and mother to three sons, plus their wives; rain for forty days and forty nights; and a dove being let out to find land. Correct me if Im wrong. Why would all these stories sound the same? When I look at a map, it looks like the land between North and South America and Europe and Africa were just split right open, creating the Atlantic Ocean. The concept of Pangea (the world once existing as a single unbroken landmass) could fit in nicely with this theory. And then theres the lost city of Atlantis. Its just a thought.
