I dont know how I came to have my group of Facebook friends. But I must consider them friends because I put up with a litany of posts like: 1. My life will be improved by electing Republicans, Democrats, Tea Party candidates (those positions simply do not match up with existing facts); 2. I should fawn over the death of one mediocre talent or another (the latest being Joan Rivers); 3. We should deport all people here illegally (showing that they are logistically challenged, or more plainly stated not living in reality, since it would take approximately 280 years to run everyone through EOIR (aka immigration court), assuming no appeals to the BIA, and further assuming that no one else enters the country without permission over the course of that 280 years; 4. Strongly support vacuum sealing the Mexico border. Apparently not understanding that the border is nearly 2000 miles long and thus almost impossible to fully patrol and ten foot fences just puts someone in the business of building twelve foot ladders, and further failing to understand that we have about 9500 miles of coastline, much of which is easily accessed from Mexico. And if we put too much pressure on land entry, then just like pushing the air out of one end of the ballon in favor of the opposite end, sea entry becomes more viable; 5. Post knowledge of a superficial, on-the-surface understanding of most issues; 6. Post wanting to crank up the war machine in Iraq again so we can spend billions/trillions of dollars and put American soldiers in danger again (at a time when it is clear we cant take care of the soldiers suffering from the last entry into Iraq) just to jump into a no-win fight with a marginal group that is less dangerous than our average big city street gang; 7. Support the oppressive militarized police forces appearing throughout the U.S.--at least when what the police force is doing agrees with their politics. You find people that were find with meeting government law enforcement with guns at the Bundy ranch being find with the government attacking innocent reporters in Ferguson and innocent people in the Occupy movement; 8. Support Israels continued existence as a terrorist state while holding the Palestinians are the devil reincarnated for taking any retaliatory action; and 9. Most damning, they report to me what has been reported/said/held by the talking head of their favorite news network, failing to realize that these networks are just infotainment outlets throwing red meat to their audiences in form of superficial understandings, half truths, and sometimes just fiction--aka lies. I could go on but I hope this limited list will encourage my Facebook friends to step up their game. Maybe at least ask before posting an item, do I know this to be true or do I merely want to believe it because it fits my view of the world.
