I dont know if any of my face book friends keep guinea pigs, I have to admit they are an acquired taste. We got ours stupidly thinking they would keep the rats from killing my finches and canaries, it didnt happen but I got attached to Sugar (white) Spike (brown) and Dyson (mixed). Went out today to feed them as I usually do and noticed that Sugar was looking worse, he had been looking a bit ropey for the last couple of days but I put it down to the heat. Called Ken to look and he said Sugar is dying so we took him to the vet (emergency appointment). She examined Sugar and said he smells bad so knew there was some infection. He had what she thought abcess in his mouth, he had lost weight, was panting a bit and had a growth under his neck she also said he had a snotty nose . Vet told us she would have to aenesthetise Sugar to examine him and there is a slim chance he would die when he was under and it would cost us £150 to do the xray. Well we couldnt see the little thing suffer so we said go for it and we left him there. She phoned us later and said he would need exploratory surgery as he was full of pus and she wasnt sure if it was related to the growth that could be cancerous and he may not survive the surgery and we might still have to put him down if the growth was cancerous. Well I loved that little piggy and couldnt put him through all that so I said let him go. It hurt like hell to sign his death warrant but so hope I did the right thing. Having said all that, I so wish we were allowed to make that decision for humans when they are suffering and all hope is gone. Thank you for listening to my outpouring, I am a bit upset at the moment.
