I dont know what day our class is up to but here is my catch up! :D Day 1: Who is Jesus Christ? He is my confidant, reprover, older brother and saviour. Day 2: What can I learn from him? I can learn who I am to become by first learning about his character, then striving to experience a mighty change of heart to incorporate that attribute into my own character. Even if it is only very minimal and slow consistent changes. Day 3: Why do i need the saviour? I need the saviour because in him i can have hope! Hope to return to live with Heavenly Father, and hope to be forgiven of my sins. Knowledge that yes I can change through the atonement, and have absolute certainty that he is in charge of my life. I need his help, and without him.... my happiness hangs upon the temporal gratifications/ luxuries which wont last eternally. Day 4: How can i personally follow Jesus Christ? Daily apply the first principles of the gospel. Exercise Faith in jesus christ; sincerely repent, earnestly pray with real intent & follow the promptings from the spirit. Worthily partake of the sacrament, attend the temple frequently and magnify my calling at church. Live my covenants, daily read the scriptures, and to continue doing missionary work. it sounds like the usual checklist we always hear regarding what we are to do, but for me each one of these things are very important to me, because it has been my source of strength, comfort, and provides me with peace and happiness in life. Day 5: what can help me draw closer to the saviour? I think my answer above answers this question already, but Ill share one other thing which has helped me to do this. On Lds.org i read a few talks about about how we need to learn to Educate our desires. I thought that was such an interesting statement, and as I applied it I came to learn that it doesnt mean that your putting yourself into self denial, but on the contrary - you learn to access the atonement to give you a new heart, with new desires and an increased perspective. The book of mormon is full of examples of people who learned to educate their desires and essentially experienced a mighty change of heart. For me I experimented on this by praying daily that the Lord would remove from my heart any desire to sin, and to replace it with a desire to be exactly obedient. As i continued to do this my desires and perspective began to change, and the Lord helped me to experience/receive exactly what i was praying for. Obedience to the the Lords commandments and expectations became my pursuit, and it didnt feel like a burden. My old temptations had no power or place in my heart because my desire for it was removed. Im definitely not perfect at this, but I do have a testimony and know that it works! And that God wants us to learn to educate our hearts desires to be more inclined to him.
