I dont know what your take is, Matthew Currier Burden, but I think Ive found the very first lawful order in my lifetime that I would refuse and take the brig time for. We - military members an veterans - are not your guinea pigs and international servants, Washington. Four hours of Ebola training? Thats it for potentially the deadliest deployment in my lifetime? We are neither the Peace Corps nor Doctors Without Borders. And listening to two mental patient lawmakers urge the president to put military men and military doctors in direct contact with Ebola patients in Africa is enraging. Were screening inbound flights. Thats how the first Ebola patient got here. Through the screen door. The same screen door used today by a man who vomited and then died in a flight from Africa to New York. There is no cure. Death rate is 70%. There is no cure. Over 10,000 new cases per week in Africa. There is no cure. And the World Health Org now says the incubation period is not 21 days, but closer to 42 days before symptoms of infection may surface. There is no cure. And we are going to drop 4,000 of our bravest right smack in the middle of an epidemic with 4 hours of training and not even enough hazmat gear? To survive an enemy we cannot fight? We are not The Expendables. Unlike the movie, this doesnt have funny lines. Unlike the movie, the stars will die. I never ever thought I would think this, let alone say it, but I personally would refuse those orders, boys. This is a mindless mission you are not suited for. Take the brig time and be alive to visit your family when you are out. Its one thing to refuse an order to fight an enemy. Its quite another refuse an order to be dropped into a pit of lethal, incurable sickness. This isnt disagreeing with a war or military conflict. In my eyes, there is no honor lost. None.
