Sometimes I am overwhelmed with grief as I read the responses to my survey about the stressors my fellow Muslims experience. What pain our forefathers must feel to have sacrificed so much to come to America, the land of freedom and opportunity, only to have themselves and their children experience the very bigotry and oppression they were escaping. My brothers and sisters, in those moments where all of society seems to be against us, where media portrays us as criminals and terrorists, and when our own colleagues and co-workers passive or even active aggressively make us feel less than dirt, remember the struggles of our beloved Prophet sal allahu alihi wasallam. Despite his pain and suffering, he was always gentle and always patient. Most importantly he drew his strength from his faith in Allah subhana watalla. Arm yourselves with knowledge. Arm yourselves with patience and above all, arm your selves with faith in the Almighty during these difficult times. The greatest tragedy, however, is the injustice we inflict upon ourselves. We isolate each other, we judge one another, we fight one another, and we forget one another. And I speak to myself before anyone else. How can this Ummah survive if we cannot even count on the support of each other? As we approach the end of this blessed month of Ramadan, before the doors of His amplified mercy are closed, pray for our Ummah, pray for one another, and pray that Allah unite our hearts and grant us strength to over come whatever obstacles that may befall us. Ameen
