I dont know why so many people are moaning. If you are not - TopicsExpress

I dont know why so many people are moaning. If you are not Scottish and do not live on Scotland, you have no right to say. A sibling has no say in another sibling leaving home. Yes it affects you, but so do decisions in the USA, but you dont expect to vote there. Scots not living in Scotland dont have the right to vote? I dont have a problem with that either, but I can see the contention. Basically, they chose to leave Scotland for another country. Agree with it or not, theres a definite logic to it- after all, I dont expect to be a part of my parents household decision-making. Non-Scots living in Scotland having the vote? Obviously! If your parents divorce, and the one you live with finds someone else, they marry and them and their children move in, youd expect them to have a say in the household running. Ive kept pretty quiet on the issue until now, mainly because as an Englishman living in Wales, its none of my business. But Im getting tired of ill-informed, half-true opinions being shoved down my throat. Personally, I think they should be allowed independence if they want it- they were originally a separate country anyway. Basically, all this moaning that we should all be allowed to a vote is comparable to attitudes when countries wanted to leave the Empire- can India really be trusted with independence? Its also important not to assume England and Britain are synonymous. Its embarrassing how many people havent a clue as to the difference between Great Britain, United Kingdom and The British Isles. They arent the same. The British Isles are the islands that make up our archipelago, and have nothing to do with politics. Great Britain is 2 things- geographically it is the main island alone- England, Scotland, and Wales. Politically, it also includes the islands that are part of these countries. The UK is short for The United Kingdom, which itself is short for The United Kingdom Of Great Britain And Northern Ireland. This should be self explanatory, but in case it isnt, its England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland (and the islands part of these countries). The UK is who we currently are internationally. The Republic Of Ireland (Southern Ireland, Eire etc.) has nothing to do with any of this apart from being part of the British Isles. To be honest, if you cant grasp the concept of different countries sharing an island, you cant be trusted to participate in such an important referendum- no matter where you are from. And from some of the things Ive seen and heard, there are far too many that fall into that category. To be honest, the only way Scottish independence is going to affect anyone else is if the politicians decide to use the opportunity to make an extra buck- and I wouldnt put it past them. Its a shame that people cant be bothered to put this sudden anger to more useful causes- you know, the ones that happen every day. Anyway, good luck Scotland. I hope you get what you want... either way.
