I dont mean to beat a dead horse, but as we continue our journey - TopicsExpress

I dont mean to beat a dead horse, but as we continue our journey over to South Dakota, it is with a certain degree of irony that we decided to purchase and watch Lone Survivor this evening. As I watched this powerful story of four men who sacrificed everything, including most of their lives, in the name of honor, brotherhood, and the cause they were so passionately committed to – I was forced to examine the contrast between their actions and those of the man recently put upon a hero’s pedestal by our President. With a tearful eye, I was forced to accept that the heroic song of Marcus Luttrell and the men who sacrificed so much for their country and the freedom of others, now falls silent to the jubilation and celebration of one, Bowe Bergdahl. Be he coward, traitor, captive, or collaborator, it matters not – his return will indeed be celebrated. There is no denying the right of his parents to celebrate his return; but I believe it is fitting to examine the stark contrast between the character of all the men involved and wonder – how can this be?? Is the country so desperate to rally around a hero, they will ignore every fact or questionable circumstance of his story? Will they celebrate regardless of truth, just to have their parade? How is it that Susan Rice can make the astonishing claim that Bowe Bergdahl was a warrior, who served his country “with honor and distinction” while the soul of America should still be weeping for the loss of real heroes like Michael Murphy, Danny Dietz, and Matt Axelson and all those who knew true honor, real sacrifice, and a devotion to country. How is it that a small town in Idaho prepares an enormous celebration and a parade for a returning “hero”, without any regard to the controversy or consequences surrounding his story? For me – I would prefer we wait, we temper our enthusiasm, and recognize only those deserving of our cheers or our tears. Bowe Bergdahl is returning home . . .but is he truly deserving of a hero’s welcome; or should we redirect our attention once again to the heroes like those in Lone Survivor?
