I dont mind people uniting, in and of itself, but religion and nationalism tend to unite people *against* other groups of people. I imagine that this sort of thing catalyzes even more enmity against the Middle East by putting this much focus on theological and political differences, whereas without fervid nationalism and religion, there would be much less reason for conflict. It wouldnt be a utopia by any means, but theres little more frightening to me than a group of armed men who believe that the creator of the Universe endorses their military actions, and thats precisely the pitch Ive seen in Baptist church pamphlets calling for Christians to pray for George Bushs success back in the day...
