I dont normally do these circular things but am stuck on a train - TopicsExpress

I dont normally do these circular things but am stuck on a train waiting for a replacement driver, the last one presumably having died of boredom on the endless, slow, stopping train. Its like Adlestrop but with more screaming toddlers and an overflowing toilet. So that Peter Daniels asks what I was doing at 23 and I thought you might be agog to know. Jo Bell at 23 then - Where I lived: in Newcastle where I ended up staying for 12 years. What I drove: the first of several battered Escorts What I did: archaeology, working then for Tyne & Wear Museums at South Shields Roman Fort with Alan Telford and other large-brained reprobates. Who had my heart: Hmmm. No-one but as for the rest of me... it was either the feckless ginger public school boy or the beautiful, clever, foolish junkie whom I have now outlived. Age now: 46. Where I live now: wherever I like, so long as there is a canal. What I drive: a VW Beetle with a mysterious light constantly flashing on the dashboard. What I do: Poetry. Managing it, encouraging it, sometimes writing it. Canal Laureate UK. Who has my heart: No-one. But I often go to bed with Norman MacCaig.
