I dont normally participate in social dialogue on Facebook, but - TopicsExpress

I dont normally participate in social dialogue on Facebook, but today I feel differently and I want to take the time to do so as well. The reason that I feel differently is based on the events that unfolded and are continuing to unfold after the verdict was announced last night about the incident that occurred on the afternoon of August 9th this year in Ferguson, MO. The incident that Im speaking of, if you are still unaware, involves an officer of the law shooting a civilian which in turn took the life of that civilian. (I could name the parties involved but I feel it takes away from the bigger picture in this discussion. No disrespect to the life taken because all life is precious.) Anytime an officer of the law takes the life of a civilian, certain questions arise. The most significant question of all is if the lethal shooting was justified. The law of man predicates actions of lethality based on the level of threat perceived in the situation. We hire elected officials to regulate this determinate legislature which is currently in place. We then hire law-enforcement on multiple levels of government to enforce this legislature. As citizens of a society of democratic nature, we are obligated to uphold the laws passed by these elected officials, whether we agree with them or not. However, the law of man and whether it should be changed is not whats being focused on in this discussion. I just felt it was necessary to point out how the events leading up to the death of this civilian fall upon all of us because we are all responsible and a part of that system. The main focus here is on the topic of perpetual segregation. The reason that this is the focus is because I keep reading posts on here with the underlying current being centered around the color of skin, whether you all want to admit it or not. As humans, segregation has been a part of our social infrastructure since the beginning of time. This process evolved out of survival and necessity based on environmental elements to preserve our species. Now, we segregate human beings based on multiple factors which include: gender, intelligence, socio-economic status and race, amongst many others. Racial segregation seems to me to be the most relevant of those just listed. Racial segregation is based on the perception of biological differences within a species, the species of man in this case. The color wheel of man has kept societies of racial differences separated and at times at war with each other. Around the world, people are choosing sides based on the segregation inherent in our system, a system we continue to put stock in. If we want to move past the issue of race, this is the paradigm that must be shifted. I found a video that may put things into perspective from a different view point. youtu.be/Ss8UGJnKPYQ Its a video of a man who was born with a specific form of colorblindness called achromatopsia. He sees things in the gray scale. In 2004, he received an operation which permanently placed a cybernetic implant into his brain which helps him interpret color through different musical tones he hears. His take on the color of human skin is what I hope you take away from this. Its an interesting video to watch all the way through but if you are in a hurry, fast forward to 5:32-5:50. Here is another humans take on how to end racial segregation: youtu.be/Mh8mUia75k8 Thank you for your time.
