I dont play games at the carnivals. Sure some people win, but for the most part it wastes time, money, and the game is rigged for you to lose. I feel this way now about high stakes testing. Teachers have no input into it, they cant discuss it, and the test has been made so difficult that it truly doesnt measure a student accurately. It has almost become a sophisticated form of child abuse. In the past Ive said, well in life we have to take tests, so try it and see. That may be true in the past, but most tests are created, reviewed, and meant to assess accurately. It is no longer accurate. My students are bright, smart, and compassionate--they live outside the test bubbles. Students and the funding attached to them are being used like pawns. For a man that failed the bar exam several times and had a mother as a teacher, Cuomo has quite a lot to learn. For the taxpayers, this is the wake up call. This our money he is playing with. Tons wasted on test prep for a test that is awful. Once you fire all of the teachers--who will watch and teach the children?
