I dont really do prints anymore. But when I did, I used to charge $75 for a matter 8x10 I inch print. If I had $1 for every time I heard wow $75 for an 8x10, they cost a few bucks at Kmart! I understand that the general public doesnt understand or see the process the way a photographer does..... So folks....here is a basic break down. $75 $30 Less 10%GST and 30% company tax $6 Professional Print $7 Professional Matt $4 Delivery or shipping costs on print and Matt (different suppliers) $5 Overheads I dont quite know how to factor in all the costs of running a business but as they are high in this trade (expensive gear and computer and software upgrades regularly, insurances, cpd, advertising costs, costs involved to get to your shoot etc). This is a conservative estimation That leaves me with a grand total profit of $23! For that $23 you are commissioning a professional artist with 15 years experience. It is my bread and butter. This is how I provide food, clothes and education for my family. My skill, time and expertise are worth $23 to provide you with a beautiful keepsake that youll keep forever :) Please pass on and share with your friends.
