I dont understand why politicians believe people are blindly accepting their commercials. I mean, I hope that the average viewer is smart enough to realize commercials are not actually based on facts. We have animated bears using bathroom tissue, theres an Australian lizard that is spouting the benefits of car insurance and theres a multitude of fake families enjoying everything from breakfast drinks to cereal to Disney vacations - all in the hope that youll consider what they are pushing, from peanut butter to feminine hygiene products and everything else in-between. Why is politics and elections in general focused on MONEY. It is the one things we should NOT focus on, at least in considering our choice of representative. Ever since Citizens United passed the floodgates of cash have swamped our political arena. More and more money is being thrown at one party or the other -although its unbalanced in the Republican partys favor. What I cant understand is that false statements, outright lies, misinformation and shady tactics used in some of these attack ads should be criminal. They often are debunked and yet still aired over and over. That people accept these ads as factual, without even checking things out themselves is worrisome. Just because an actor tells you the coffee is wonderful doesnt mean to run out and buy it. Seeing ads for food doesnt mean to rush off to eat more food. Sure thats what they want you to do, thats what the commercials are created to do. But people are supposed to be intelligent enough to not react to the stimulus, but to think about what they are watching. If you just ate dinner, why would you run out for a burger or pizza. If you are happy with something your use, be it shampoo, detergent or dish soap, would you immediately switch just because a commercial told you their product was better. I would hope that voters would do a little thinking about who they want to represent them. Im sure they wouldnt just buy a car, go to a dentist or get a lawyer because some commercial said that this was the best they could get. That they would shop around, look into their options and see what would be the best choice for them and their family. Id really be worried if people didnt give as much thought to who they are putting into office as they would in buying a home. This person is going to help make laws that effect you, they will either make changes that will improve things or make things worse for everyone in the state. Id hope people would put in more thought than watching a few political commercials, then have a knee-jerk reaction and change their mind based on an attack ad targeting their preferred candidate. REALLY? I hope not... The one time you follow the MONEY, is from who its coming and into whos pocket its padding. Then take a look to see how that person voted. Did they vote like you wanted them too? Did they vote to help out the MONEY bags padding their pocket? Really listen to what they say when theyre giving speeches. Then turn around and look at the way they voted, what actions they took - do what they say and what they do agree or are they opposing one another. Dont trust that anyone in politics is telling the truth when the camera is on. Always verify what they say with things they say to their base supporters, to other members in their party and what their record says about their actions. Thats how you find the truth, by following the evidence and the facts. Too bad there are too many voters that just dont seem to care one way or the other, many dont even bother to vote anymore if they can avoid it. They dont think they matter. Well if people dont vote, they arent letting their voices be heard. They cant complain how things turn out because they didnt do anything to help change the way things are. Hopefully there will be a lot of voters voicing their opinions in the elections coming up. We need to change the way things are being done, we need to focus on the ISSUES instead of the MONEY. WE the PEOPLE need to reclaim our place and start choosing how this country works.
