I dont want to take away the focus of the Oso Mudslide away from the grieving families of those who have perished in this tragic disaster or from the continued need for support & aid to help those who have lost everything and to help rebuild this community.......however, I want to commend KOMO for describing this woman as a Survivor and not a victim. For too many years, the media has put the victim label on people who have lost property or been injured due to natural disasters or crimes and to me, the word victim suggests that people cant overcome tragic events that occur in life......when I was growing up, the word victim was used to describe someone who died. This woman is alive and with help from generous citizens and faith in God, she and her surviving neighbors will eventually be able to rebuild and persevere through this tragedy. Yes, mourn those who lost their lives in this unspeakable tragedy for they are the real victims.......the ones who are still alive are not. Pray for healing for those who lost loved ones and lost property but dont treat them like theyre permanently helpless by giving them the victim label.....they are Survivors and we can share in their grief without treating them like victims because God spared their lives and has given them an opportunity to persevere and rebuild. Good job KOMO!
