I don’t care if the bible supports my right to marry or not. I have the right to marry a person of my choosing regardless of what anyone’s religious beliefs are. Nevertheless, as a book that was once used by racist to justify slavery and now is used by the same type of people to justify hurting gays, lesbians and transgenders, the idea that biblical scholars are starting to put holes in conservative interpretations is comforting. I know God sanctions my love for Keith. I know God does not want people to be beat, raped, tortured, humiliated, harassed, fired, evicted or murdered because they have the capacity to be intimate with a person of their same gender or because they don’t fit other’s idea of a gender norm. If people say the Koran or Bible say different then I say either they have read the text wrong or the text does not reflect what I know to be God’s will.
