I don’t know why i continue to find this scene in this movie so fascinating. There is at minimum as essay in here abt the the perception of Black culture though the white gaze… &/or how we adapt our performance brilliance to the confines/expectations/limited roles of Hollywood. There is so much. The fact that a joke that only appears for a fraction of the movie’s running time has such an impact is amazing. But why does it work? What are we laughing at? I know that entire movie was satire but that moment was layered & it intrigues me even more to know that the actors essentially came up with an imaginary slang language to make those moments work for the film. #SaDaTay
