I draw such sublime comfort from this text, and am particularly moved to doxology by it today. What a great joy it is for us to know that the hour is coming when we shall be forever with the Lord; sorrows forgot, loves purest joys restored, arm in arm around the throne rejoicing for all eternity. How trivial are the woes which plague us; how quick and fleeting are the dark paths we must so briefly tread; how great in comparison is the love, guidance, and mercy given to us by our Lord, who even now seeks to repay from His own fullness all that has been taken from us. He who guides the future ordains all things for His glory, and sustains the believer as He has ever done in the past. What a great relief that God saw fit to undertake the task of redemption; what a great mystery that He set in motion before time itself a plan to redeem those whom He knew would spurn, reject, and murder Him. The same God who saw fit to redeem us places us in these trials that we might be moved to better know and rely on His love, and come to better trust the goodness of the Heart which seeks to calm and soothe our tears, a Heart whose sole desire is to prosper and sustain us for His glory. Christians, bear patiently your cross; grow not weary in the walk of this life. Be ever gracious, be ever merciful, and be known and remembered as a people who strove tirelessly to bring the Light into the darkness, a people whose sole purpose on this earth is to love those who are still lost because we have been found. Never lose sight of the wonder and mystery of the imputed righteousness of Christ which daily makes us clean, for the hour fast approaches when God will wipe away all tears, comfort all who now hurt, and mend all that is now broken, and what a glorious day that will be. To God be the glory for all these things, forever and ever. Be still, my soul; the Lord is on Thy side. Bear patiently this cross of grief and pain. Leave to thy God to order and provide; in evry change, He faithful will remain. Be still, my soul; thy best, thy heavnly friend Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. Be still, my soul; thy God doth undertake To guide the future as He did the past. Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake; All now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul; the waves and winds still know His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below. Be still, my soul; when dearest friends depart, And all is darkend in the veil of tears, Then shalt thou better know His love, His heart, Who comes to soothe thy sickness and thy fears, Be still, my soul; thy Jesus can repay From His own fullness, all He takes away. Be still, my soul; The hour is hastning on When we shall be forever with the Lord. When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone, Sorrows forgot, loves purest joys restored. Be still, my soul; when change and tears are past, All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
