I dread the day when I write something about men (I being one), - TopicsExpress

I dread the day when I write something about men (I being one), and I am asked a question – why not about women? The day, I guess is not very far, when I write something about Tamilians (I being one), and I am asked a question – why not about Andhraites? Just like, today when I wrote something about an event outside India and I was asked – why not about problems in India? I was then also questioned if I had written that because I am a Muslim? I learnt an important lesson today. The problem in our society is not that a very small minority speaks or does what they speak/do with impunity, but that the large majority is silent – and does not condemn such narrow thoughts/actions. A few have written to me asking me not to respond – saying, let the barking dogs bark. Thank you sweethearts for your support and understanding, but one thing I know about myself – I am not a part of that silent majority. I have never hesitated voicing my opposition to such narrow mindedness – and I am surely not going to start now. PS: For all those who have read my previous post – it is an expression of revulsion for the world’s silent massacre of the innocent kids in a worldwide publicized theater. Deaths are a part of life today – accidents happen, killings too – after all there probably is a war going on there – but to kill kids – to bomb schools – I believed was till recently a reserve for the despicable and fanatical Talibans. To say that India, by voting against this in the UN has done its job is like saying that government has done its duty after giving ex-gratia amount to one who has been raped. I condemn the killings of the innocent and also the narrow mindedness of the people who see everything under the tint of religion/nationalism/castism/gender …and also those who are a part of the silent majority... ...which I am surely not...
