I encountered a candidate campaiging door to door today and remarked that last time he ran, there was a problem with his flyers coming back from the printer too late to get in the mail before election day (why he sent them to Florida instead of using a local printer is beyond me) and that was unfortunate. He snapped back that it was the Post Offices fault (in his opinion) and when I turned to walk away (figuring that is always better than arguing with a customer), he went into his spiel and claimed the only union support his opponant still has is public employee unions of which he said, They live off the taxpayers and thats not right. Excuse me, but you say that to my face while in uniform performing my job. Mr roofer Bob was undoubtedly reciting a party line, but I respect all honest working people, whether self employed like him, working for private business, or working for a govt entity and if anyone thinks we are living off the taxpayers or for that matter, dont have real jobs, dont produce anything, etc, they are more than welcome to work in my shoes or better yet the shoes of our law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS. Sorry for the rant, but a remark like that considering I have 20 years with the Post Office and my father had 30, really rubbed me the wrong way and it took a lot of self control and maturity to not snap back in anger, but just walk away and keep my mouth shut.
