I encountered an all too shiny shouty corporate speak powerpoint point today in which the word excellence was repeated: excellence, excellence, excellence, excellence in a frenzied litany of anxiety. As if repeating it so many times like a spell would being into being. I am reminded of Sara Ahmeds wonderful work on non-performatives and anti-racism. And Marilyn Strathern on bullet points in university strategies which actually generate no meaning. I then thought of how soothing allowing myself to be good enough was and I wondered whether actually universities are allowing themselves to be good enough.
