I enjoy a good debate on pretty much any topic I know and care enough about to debate. Especially with those who are knowledgeable and hold a differing point of view. It is one of my favorite ways to learn. I am in a long-term debate with some of my pro-Romney political friends. I consider it long-term because the debate isn’t about whether Romney is a good man or would make a good President, there is no debate on those issues, it is about whether he could win the Presidency if he runs again. The greatest selling point for Romney in 2012 was that he was “electable”. Mickey Mouse should have been “electable” against Obama in 2012. Romney lost. What makes him electable this time around? The next Republican will not run against Obama, and will probably run against someone who distances herself from Obama. I do not see how Romney could possibly get more votes in 2016 than he got in 2012, which was less than John McCain got in 2008. It gets even worse for Romney this time around. The Tea Party has had it with the Establishment. The Tea Party supported Romney in 2012. There were 4 million McCain voters who stayed home, but I have not yet heard them adequately identified. Regardless, the Tea Party will NOT support someone thought to be a RINO in 2016. That may be suicidal according to some political analysts, but so was the Revolutionary War. Not to compare the two, but principles do occasionally win out. I am certain that if a RINO gets the Republican nomination, there will be a 3rd Party candidate and a Democrat President in 2016. Romney is a good man and would do his country a service by not running again. He could win the nomination again, but is also certain to lose again.
