I escaped the concrete jungle and the captivity of the walls that surround me each day by taking a blanket and sitting along the edge of the muddy waters of the Mighty Mississippi. Breathing in fresh air, watching the river flow, listening to the symphony of a choir of birds as they joyfully sang from their homes of newly budding trees, soaking in the comfort of the warm rays of the sun, feeling the soft breeze gently caressing my skin, and touching the grass with bare feet were on my lunch menu today. Emptying my mind of all the worries, fears, and stresses of life was a much needed reprieve and nice alternative to choking down my mid-day meal at my desk. I tried to to ignore the sights and sounds of the automobiles passing to and fro on the distant bridge so my senses could enjoy much more pleasurable stimuli - the wonderful life all around me. Taking a break for moments of solitude in a peaceful place, no matter how brief, are so good for the mind, body, and spirit.
