I feel it in my heart to share this. I have posted pics of my grandfather that was a firefighter for 30 years in Memphis Fire Department but now I want to tell the story about the other great man in my life who was probably the most important spiritual figure and mentor that God allowed me to sit under. He has devoted over 50 years of his life to living for God and approximately 30 years of being a pastor. He will probably never fully know are understand how much his devotions to his convictions lead me to a path of ministry of my own. I was speaking sunday morning a couple weeks ago to an assisted living facility and as I looked down at all the grey hairs and thought to myself what in the world could I ever speak into their lives to make a difference. One thing that came to me was how things have changed so much from their days of their youth but how God never changes and how his promises remain the same and one of those promises is that He will never leave them or forsake them even when family sometimes may seem like they dont show enough attention and respect for the experience of their elders, that God would always be there to comfort them. Then I began to cry and explain to them that I too have fallen into such a busy state of affairs while trying to provide for my own family that oftentimes I have neglected to spend time with those like my grandparents especially my grandfather Benfield who over the years have invested so much time and a great wealth of experience, Bible teaching, moral impression and countless hours traveling to church meetings all across the United States. I can remember riding on the side of his tractor talking about Bible verses and staying up all hours of the night learning and discussing doctrines.. I still use the same Bible that he gave to me almost 20 years ago I dont want him to ever think that I dont appreciate him for I do truly love him so very much that the simple words that I can say to him in a casual visit would never be enough.
