I feel sad and honored today. Watato, (the African elephant who had been resident at the Seattle Zoo for about 40 years) has passed. When she and I first met (last fall), she told me that her life was intolerable. As we connected around that so I could learn more, I was honored to experience her as the very special being she was. Im spending my day feeling gratitude to Watoto for her passing - knowing that this important event will spark awareness for other elephants in similar situations. Thank you Watoto for all that youve done.
