I felt like I was in a Revolutionary Tavern today, my family and old friends having a discussion on The Republic. My family and I were treated to a quick lesson (it was high tech - the lecture sketched upon a piece of paper, rather than a napkin) about a Peoples Republic versus a Platonic Republic. What the Founders built was a Peoples republic, where the people counsel their representatives, the Representatives make the laws - with which the Executive is entrusted with to enforce. If the people disagree with how the executive is enforcing or carrying out the law, then they again counsel their representatives and the cycle starts again. What we see (in D.C. certainly and in states across the union) today is a shift to a Platonic Republic - where the Executive by-passes the people and directs through the Representatives, a total flip of the system. The Representatives becoming more like Roman Prefects, enforcing the will of the Executive upon the People rather than the Peoples will.... As a Jefferson quote I had put on a t-shirt last year: An elected despotism is not the type of government we fought for. Thank you family and volunteers for knocking doors today! Cottontown - you are AWESOME!!!! Those of you that I met today, thank you for making time for me. Good night and God bless..
