I finally got around to planting my first garlic this afternoon! Pat Burkard gave me a bunch of varieties - Russian Red, Chinese Pink, St. Helens Red, Georgian Crystal, Turkish Giant, German Extra Hardy, Chesnok Red. Its a bit late, but it sounds like it shouldnt be a problem this close to the coast where itll still be a while before the raised bed freezes. I had hoped to build a separate garlic garden, but it just got to be too late in the season, so that will wait for next summer. In the meantime, I planted 51 cloves in a corner of the raised bed I built in the spring. Looking forward to seeing if the experiment pans out next summer!
