I finally got around to posting the owl photos, as promised. Ive been working on a commission since these owls were finished. Its almost done sanding. What I am excited about, though, is that I have started on a body of work for a show at the Scott Gallery, in Edmonton, in April. I will be sharing the show with Alberta artist, Pamela Thurston. Her work is amazing and soulful and I am honoured to share the space with her. On Monday, I was so thrilled to be able to get a 169lbs piece of chlorite, from the floor, to my work table, ALL BY MYSELF! Yes, yes.. small things thrill me...no comments from the peanut gallery, please! Anyway, I spent the next three hours making the bottom of the stone/sculpture, flat! I call this, orienting the stone. It sometimes takes a few days to do this. I have learned to listen to my inner voice/gut, when doing this. If I fight it, the piece doesnt turn out well and I always am rewarded by the stone, when I do listen. I try to give my muscles a rest by sanding one day and carving the next. Today is a carving day! Yay! My favourite thing to do! SOOOO I better get at it! April is only four months away! LOL! Have a great day! Hugs!
