I finally saw #SELMA last night! Ava DuVernay has truly created a cinematic masterpiece! There was actually APPLAUSE at BAM Harvey Cinema to a totally mixed audience – I would say half people of color, half white folks – and the response was phenomenal! It’s definitely worthy of all the Golden Globe nomination as well as the OSCAR buzz and I encourage everyone to take at least one young person – someone under the age of 21 – to see this film. I’m convinced if we get enough young people to see this film, we can “emancipate our mental slavery” enabling this current generation to have a chance to realize Dr. King’s dreams for “a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” And where humanity, not greed nor bias, is the basis of our judgment.
