I finally went to see INTERSTELLAR in a digital quasi-IMAX theatre - TopicsExpress

I finally went to see INTERSTELLAR in a digital quasi-IMAX theatre nearby. As much as I had wanted to see it on 70mm IMAX in Indianapolis, I had heard the sound and projection issues were too much trouble for the ticket price. So what did I think? Overall, a serious minded heady intellectual romp, short on humor, large in scope, wonderful effects work, cute clunky box robots (their puppetry was amazing), the humans walking portraits of different facets of the human condition instead of actual characters. Matthew McConaughey was fine as the pilot lead, he did what he could. Anne Hathaway, ugh. Jessica Chastain, thankless. The supporting parts fared better really. And I will say that as the temporal distortion grew more extreme, the more human the story felt. So by the end I was welling up a bit. Quite the rollercoaster ride, I wish the humans on board were more personable but it would not be at all out of place in many idea rich people poor science fiction work I have read, so it isnt a fatal flaw. At least I saw it this week, next week they said the last Hobbit film is replacing it. Nick of time!
