I find the answers to my struggles when I relate them to the times - TopicsExpress

I find the answers to my struggles when I relate them to the times of Muhammad (S) and his companions. Such was the case today. While driving to campus, I came to a stop sign behind a cop. The intersection was completely empty and the cop could have been on his way. But he stood there for 15 some odd seconds. It was as if a car was parked at a stop sign. I did not want to go around him as that didnt appear appropriate. I carefully decided that just getting his attention somehow would be enough to see whats up. So I honked lightly. The rest is history. He steps out of the car and tells me to pull over, all because I was trying to get his attention in a way he found too aggressive. I felt stupid all throughout the day until I thought about Umars (may Allah be pleased with him) leadership. When Khalid ibn Waleed (R) once took a short route on a military campaign to save time, Umar (R) became furious for putting his men at risk as that route was known to be very dangerous. There are several other occasions when Umar (R) and Khalid (R) did not think alike. He even sacked Khalid ibn Walid (R), one of the most revered and admired sahabas, several times; one, because he found some of Khalids (R) decisions reckless, and two, because he wanted it to be known that victory does not come from Khalid ibn Walid (R), it comes from the above. Umar (R) is the same man who would weep because he might be questioned on the Day of Judgment if a dog died of hunger at the banks of Euphrates River under his khilafa. The examples are endless. Suppose the incident I faced today was witnessed under the khilafa of Umar (R). I have a terribly strong feeling that he would have reprimanded the cop for obstructing public space in such a way. After realizing this, I felt at ease. Alhamdulillah.
