I find the vehement reaction to normalizing relations with Cuba a quite fascinating exercise in doublethink. The first thing I was reminded of was a 1996 60 Minutes interview with Madeleine Albright where she stated US actions were worth causing the deaths of over 500,000 children: Lesley Stahl: We have heard that half a million children have died. I mean, thats more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it? Madeleine Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price — we think the price is worth it. Cuba and Iraq are obviously not the same thing but what administration in my lifetime has been more concerned with pragmatic humanitarian well-being over increasing the breadth and depth of US imperialism? It seems many today are still gripping tightly to their ideology and willingly ignoring the devastating effect on other peoples lives. John Boehners quote, stating the move emboldens all state sponsors of terrorism, is particularly ironic considering the US is the largest state sponsor of terror in the world, in both the Middle East and Latin America. Having the worlds most powerful military is not carte blanche to decide what is fair, just and moral. See: truth-out.org/art/item/27999-thought-experiment
