I first caught on to dance music soon after every song on the radio was at a 4/4 beat dance rhythm. David Guetta was making quite an entrance in the pop music scene with the mixing of house music with catchy pop artists’ vocals. That got me interested in dance music. I began looking for radio commercial remixes, especially those with an electro drop to listen to. I didn’t have turn tables or CDJs at that time, but I wanted to try DJing. What I did have was a midi keyboard controller, a web cam and a DJing software, Traktor. I assigned the faders and knobs on the controller to Traktor and signed up for a webcam broadcasting account on BlogTV. So I broadcast my sessions to the world all in the comfort of my bedroom and my floral curtains. I had no idea what I was doing, I was transiting in and out of songs as and when I felt like it, there was no build up to songs, one drop was incoherently attached to another. In retrospect, it was horrible. This is how the set up looked like. Horrible transitions sold separately. Curtains included.
