I first saw Ally out walking locally with a lovely lady who I think was called June. They lived in Steeds Lane, just down the road from us. I often commented about how well behaved and pretty her collies were. Ally was taking part in obedience competitions and was amazing ! A year or so later my father had a stroke and was taken to hospital and on the second Day I saw June on the ward tending to her husband who had had a really bad stroke. We chatted every day and she was so worried about her dogs being left at home all day and in particular about Ally who tended to bark when left alone. As the weeks went by, she made the unimaginable decision to rehome her dogs for their sake as she would be visiting hospital for months yet. She found a lovely lady to take Ally on and small world as it is, it turned out to be Mary from Stour Valley ! Mary no longer ran her dogs as she was by now in her 80s, but Jennifer ran her in classes and at shows and when Ally was no longer able to jump full height and would have been in the same class as Jennifers other dogs, Carol took Ally on and ran her over the smaller jumps. Ally loved agility ! Then as a turn of fate Mary passed away in late 2011 and we all wondered what had happened to Ally. We heard she was being taken care of by her daughter, but no word came regarding this. In 2012 a picture of Ally appeared on a rescue site. She was a mess, bald and unkempt. It is still a mystery as to what had happened to her. As we had noticed, a call came from Carol who said that whatever happens, she would go and get the poor girl and look after her for the rest of her life. Dave and Carol have loved Ally and taken her in as part of their family and it has not been an easy task. Ally required a lot of vet treatment at first and lots of tender loving care. The old girl was a little confused and desperate. She spent her last 2 years in comfort, ruling the roost, getting them up at all times of the night, and making herself heard in the unmistakeable hoarse bark. Thank you Carol and Dave from everyone at Stour that knew Ally. RIP and run free over rainbow bridge and send our love to Mary. She will take care of you again, I know xxx
