I fondly remember the Christchurch Town Hall as both an iconic building and a great asset to those of us Cantabrians who were concertgoers. Some of my lifes most memorable moments happened there. Yet I think the damage to the Town Hall may just be too severe for it to be successfully repaired or even rebuilt on the same site. Being next to the Avon River hasnt helped it, since the ground there subsided dramatically in the February 2011 earthquake. Another site needs to be found where a new Town Hall can be built, to the same standard or an even better one. That may be some way off, owing to financial constraints, but it would be better than an attempt to repair the damage to the existing damage.
