I forgot to mention in yesterdays post that when we were in Deadwood, a guy stopped us just after we parked and asked which part of WA we were from. He had spent 2 weeks fighting the fires in Entiat and Pateros, and was in Sturgis for a much needed break. We never got his name, but heres a big shout out to all the firefighters who risk their lives each day for us!! We ate dinner at the Ramada Inn last night. My club sandwich was not great, but the drinks were decent and cheap, and it was only a couple of minutes away walking from our motel. From these posts, one would think all we do is eat! Well, this morning we had an EXCELLENT buffet breakfast at Minervas a few blocks down the street. Heres the kicker: the waitress brought the check, and it was for Two Senior Brunch Buffets! LOL! We must have looked pretty haggard or something! (After all, Dave doesnt hit the big 5-0 until next month...) I was a hubby hugger again today. We hit the Harley dealership in Rapid City AGAIN this morning (3rd time for Dave) so he could test ride the new 2015 Road Glide that came out yesterday. He also test rode a Street Glide, which he liked better. The parking lot was full when we left at 11am (first photo)...crazy! We then went downtown to Sturgis. This was even CRAZIER! Bikes everywhere! We ate lunch at One Eyed Jacks (me in the 2nd photo) - great fish and chips! The third photo is a bunch of bikes on Main Street. Then Dave test rode a Victory (hated it) and an Indian Chieftain (third photo - loved it and the Street Glide!). We saw some very cool custom choppers (4th photo). Last photo is of all the bikes behind Dave in the Harley parking lot. We jay-ran across 4 lanes of traffic to a restaurant for dinner that had great reviews on Yelp. It was actually just a bar called Cheers and the food was delivered from the Perkins restaurant next door. The food was surprisingly good! I had chicken pot pie and Dave had something healthy. : ). Drinks were good, too. Throughout the meal, Dave contemplated keeping his Switchback and adding a batwing with radio and Bluetooth capability. Or perhaps get an Indian Chieftain with a backrest/bag to put on for longer trips? Or a Street Glide, which handled so nicely and besides, Harley has a better support infrastructure than Indian does...but everyone has a Street Glide! (And here he thought I wasnt listening...) Met several Marines today while waiting for Dave to finish test riding. My vest has a big red and gold U.S. Marines...Semper Fi patch on the back - its amazing how many other Marines stop me to thank me for my service and to share stories about their service. Oohrah! This one old Vietnam vet I met (while Dave was test riding the Indian) told me he was a sergeant for 2 whole days before getting demoted to corporal because...well, lets just say he wasnt on his best behavior while on shore leave! He was saying how he never had the chance to get his new chevrons (Sgt stripes) sewn on before his demotion. I said, But think of all the money you saved on sewing fees! and he absolutely cracked up. His wife didnt seem to find the humor in it, though... We have played phone tag with Ken and Shiela Kissell from our H.O.G. group for three days now, but we will see them tomorrow afternoon when the rest of our party arrives..Anita and Mike Abhold, Ken and Bobbie Shank, and Lani Garrett and Doyle Smith. Looking forward to seeing them!
