Personally. I see this everywhere. I turn on the TV or go into the city and this same nauseating truth confronts me. I go to a club with friends, the music pumps, everyone around me is indulging, dancing, having a great time excess, selfishness, obliviousness are what I see. As if entire generations of my peers have been hypnotised. Its bad enough that this selfish obliviousness allows so many to completely forget the suffering so widespread on this planet, but that these generations are directly profiting from said suffering is a crime so venal and awful I struggle against a rising hatred of my own countryman. I tell myself they are not to blame. That they know no better. That they dont realise every time they send another empty meaningless text message in pursuit of selfish desire that they dont realise the instruments they use are the results of slave labour often by children in the third world. I tell myself that they just cant see the damage the corporations and banks they work for either directly or indirectly are doing not just abroad but at home. I delude myself that theyre all really good people and theyre just unaware of how our government in league with other western governments through agencies such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund deliberately impoverish, enslave, and exploit third world nations in order to unnecessarily curb population growth. (ie genocide on a scale that would make Hitler blush) But what Im sick of most. Is bullshitting myself. I will not censor myself to comfort your ignorance ever again. Change starts with awareness. It is time awareness went mainstream. And ignorance condemned for the lazy, apathetic, cowardice that it clearly is. ~R. Offended you are? Care I do not.
