I found an interesting statistic an a journal titled African elephants and human–elephant interactions: implications for conservation. A section focused on the relationship between human population and native elephant populations. The slope was negative (which I could have guessed) but it is not linear. The density of elephants was unaffected until the human density was about 15.6 persons/km2, which represents a 40-50% alteration in the land, at this point the elephant pollution vanishes ( Lee, Graham 2006). sfg.jenf.gecko.midnightoilconsulting/sites/default/files/African%20Elephants%20and%20Human-Elephant%20Interactions.pdf
