I found out where the SUGAR BOWL got its name. Tulane University - TopicsExpress

I found out where the SUGAR BOWL got its name. Tulane University (in uptown New Orleans) is located on the site of the old Foucher Sugar Plantation. Tulane Stadium, built in 26 and torn down in the 70s, was the location of the Sugar Bowl football game for decades, so the name made sense. Tulanes football team has used the Super Dome for its games since the old stadium was torn down, but now theyve got a new one on campus. First game set for next Saturday. A sell-out already. (Capacity: about 30,000 seats.) Neighbors are antsy about how this is going to go. Tulane is not out on the interstate but stuck in the middle of the ritziest housing in the city. Stay tuned.
