I found the reporter presenting Alison Weir extremely one-sided. However, here is Mrs. Weir presenting an articulate case against Israels stance. I wonder what some of the responses of supporters of Israel might be. Maybe just one or two things which stand out to you in relation to Mrs. Weirs comments? A few things do stand out. I think of the Jewish feeling of being hated throughout the world so that they might naturally assume wherever they went they might be attacked. Strengthening their historical ties to Israel seemed to them a good strategy. They purchased a lot of land in the area, and began immigrating there. Indigenous inhabitants of that area of the Ottoman Empire responded with growing hostility to the growing power of a dhimmi people despised in religious tradition. Under the British mandate, many Jews immigrated illegally to present day Israel. The Muslims set as Grand Mufti over Jerusalem a man who intervened on several occasions to prevent Jewish children being exchanged for Nazi soldiers, so that he was personally responsible for the gassing of thousands of Jewish children. The same man called for killing Jews in the street wherever you found them over the radio. When the British decided to pull out of the out of control situation, they decided to let them fight it out. Muslim leaders told Palestinians to flee their residences and to adopt an implacable stance against the Jews. Today, Palestinians still elect a group and platform just as implacable as the Grand Mufti and try by appeals to the world to advance their anti-Semitic agenda. They suffer, there is no doubt about it. And surely they do have many grievances but their hostility to the Jews undermines any realistic chance of rapprochement .
