I found their belief pretty interesting.. Folk belief and religious needs of the Gypsies If the mother, a sister or a daughter of a sorceress woman dies , she has to drink the water from the cup , which they leave at the feet of the corpse , so that the soul of the deceased bathe in it . If she doesnt drink it , the dead take their wisdom with them and cease to be part of the guild , hence the saying : piyel sar covalyi ( she/he drinks like a sorceress , that she/he must drink , whether she/he likes it or not ) To keep her . wisdom and to preserve magic power ( covalyipen ) , she puts a burned pieces of the clothes of the just deceased, according to ancient Tradition , incinerated immediately after the burial of the dead. with this shred they then burn incense in the next midsummers eve or new years eve on any cross ways to capture the soul of the deceased still fluttering around the realm of the dead received after the complete rottenness of the body. For this very reason, they must visit the grave of the dead in the first nine days after the burial, for lunch. And let fall to the grave poppy seeds, so that the subsequent soul of the deceased may be acquired before the magic force weakens. Such a Sorceress who rerceived her art from a Pcuvush or even a Nivashi (sprits of water and earth) are especially feared by their tribe. It is believed that they, with a Pcuvush or Nivashi, had a snake within their body, as a result of their intercourse, which could kill those who inflicted harm. In order to strengthen the of belief of their tribe, as well as prevent further intercourse with a Pcuvush and Nivashi, she would drink horse milk for the next nine days. When a Sorceress becomes old and frail she prepares herself for the journey into Mulengre (the realm of the dead) by allowing the nails on her hands and feet to grow. For it is the belief of the tribe that it is difficult to enter Mulengre and so their long nails allow them to climb the rock walls after death in order to move into the afterlife.
