I found this post through an old friends friend. He doesnt know me, but through the power of le facebookes Id like to share this with you in the context of a previous post Ive made (which I will link in the comments below) about male violence/harassment toward women/men/trans-folk, and how the power is in everyones hands (but especially men) to counter this behavior with non-violent interruption, deterrance, and conversation. I am not sharing this to embarrass nor exalt Jon, but to highlight the immediacy and tension that occurs when confronting events of this nature. Sometimes it is not so simple to address ones concerns that another male is acting inappropriately and harmfully. Sometimes engaging in the moment fills one with so much adrenaline or emotion that one cannot calmly say hey. brother. this is not cool. please stop. Or, even if one may...there is a very likely chance that the aggressor will feel threatened and escalate with words or physical action. In this example, just such a thing occurred. And this stand-up man did what he felt was necessary and right. This is the kind of action that we need. However you accomplish it, stand up for others when you feel the urge. No matter what happens, it is better than remaining silent. You have the power to sway society onto a better path.
