I found this testimony from Gordon Wallace on the dismal state of workers before unions were formed: Gordon Wallace The fact is my father lived through the time when all the unions were starting to form. He used to tell horror stories of how those people were treated, if they tried to leave one job their employers send lumpers to beat them up and bring them back. If they really wanted to make a statement, or set an example, they might even kill you. But mostly they just broke your legs or arms. You dopes have no idea what your lives would be like today with out the unions, and you have no idea how many lives were lost during the transition from a non-union country to a country with unions and human rights, I wish some one would make an accurate documentary about it, and then force every one to watch before they could graduate high school, so our populous would all know what it was like, workers were treated like slaves, and that is where we are headed once more unless we wake up and fight back.
