I frequent open mics. I like the energy. The vibe. The community and support. But...I just go. When I run into people who knew me when I performed, I just tell them...I dont really do this anymore. The thing is...I never stopped doing THIS. Baring my soul and wearing my heart on my sleeve is who I am. What I stopped being was vulnerable...I started caring about being too sensitive...too different...and hurt. Last night I performed at an open mic. As I was leaving there was a lady standing by and she looked at me and said, Thank you. I didnt get why she was thanking me. She said, you know, for sharing you. My heart wept for a me it once knew. An old friend told me this week, you found your voice. You just dont use it. I wont miss my beat on this. My vulnerability is what makes me special. My sensitivity is what makes me, me. And my story telling ability is what makes me whole. Putting fear aside in 2015. Holding me to it...
