“I gave a talk recently, and I said something fairly extreme. I said, “The way we treat, given the science of what we know, given the treatments that we have that work, the science that’s there... the way we treat autoimmune disease today is criminal.” It’s a strong statement, but I believe it’s criminal, because 1) the cost is enormous, 2) the cost to human life in terms of suffering and complications and the lack of effectiveness is enormous, and 3) there are better treatments that work better. I mean, I just saw a woman in my office a couple days ago who had ulcerative colitis. She was on a TNF-alpha blocker, which cost 30 grand a year, and she was in the hospital twelve times the year before she saw me. She came to see me, and she’s not been in the hospital at all, is off all her medications, and feels good. You know, this is something we just don’t see, right?” -Dr. Mark Hyman on the flaws of the conventional medical approach to autoimmunity The rest of his presentation is live today on the Autoimmune Summit, along with four other talks on natural solutions to autoimmune disease--to access, sign up for free here: autoimmune-paleo/autoimmunesummit
