I get a lot of rap submissions. What Im a bit tired of is rap songs about the state of rap music. What Id like, and what I think a lot of people would like, is more personal, honest, innovative rap songs. If all you are rapping about is the struggle or how wack these other rappers sound, think about the millions of people who like rap music but could care less about the struggle and how these other rappers sound. They are not relating to you. The only people who are relating to that are other rappers. And also, dont be afraid of making a radio-ready song... just because you hate the music on the radio doesnt mean that the tried and true methods of constructing a song should be thrown out the window. Not saying every song needs to be intro-16-hook-16-hook-16-hook-outro or sound anything like Mike Will Made It made it, but understand that people respond to hooks for a reason. You can still make real hip hop and design your songs for people to engage with and enjoy using classic song structure and techniques. Just a random $0.02.
