I get it. Everyone hates that guy on social media who posts any sort of opinion about politics. So...Ill try and word this a little differently. As of noon, 15% of eligible Boston voters showed up to voice their opinions about the direction they want the United States, and Massachusetts, to head in. That is great, and good on them for doing so, but the remaining 85% havent contributed their opinion. People have fought, protested, and DIED for our right to vote...and it is our right to vote that makes America what it is today. Ill spare you from any finger pointing, but I feel an obligation to remind people how important it is for you to have a say in our government. There are many people who feel strongly about ignoring climate change and the current state of our environment. They will be showing up to the polls. There are many people who feel strongly about ignoring the pay gap between men and women, as well as passing laws that restrict a womans ability to make decisions regarding her own body. They will be showing up to the polls. There are many people who want to take away, and deny, equals rights to gay and lesbian people on the basis of their religion. They too will be showing up to the polls. There will be people more passionate about gun availability than they are voter eligibility. There will be people who put more faith in bibles than they do science books. There will also be people who believe that large amounts of corporate welfare will eventually trickle down to the middle class and improve our lives. In a way, these are not necessarily bad things. It is their opinion and their right to vote in accordance with their views. However, I have a hunch that many people feel differently about these issues. I also believe that people with different opinions far outnumber the ones who are actually voting. And that therein lies a possible problem. If you have different opinions but not do not exercise your right to vote, you risk a government being elected that does not represent the masses accordingly. The United States will operate in ways that you may or may not agree with. That is a BIG deal. I think my opinion on these issues is obvious - but thats not what this status is about. It is to encourage people to get informed, get to the polls, and vote...because the people listed above most certainly are - and, to be quite honest, I find that terrifying. :-) That is all.
