I got a story to tell...want to hear it...here it go: Yesterday - TopicsExpress

I got a story to tell...want to hear it...here it go: Yesterday after completing school shopping at WalMart, my Mother had to stop and get gas. I got out the car to pump the gas and showed my 8-year old how to pump the gas. After using the remaining balance on the WalMart gas card, my mother stated she wanted to fill the tank so the 8-year old proud of himself, went to pump some more, but accidentally pressed on the handle just as he took the nozzle off the pump, and gasoline splashed in his face. He immediately started screaming his face is burning and running around. I grabbed him and gently told him to calm down. I ran him over to where the beverage coolers in search of Milk. I learned the enzymes in milk helps to neutralize the effects when gasoline gets in contact with the skin. I couldnt find the milk and the cashier stated they dont carry milk. So I grabbed a bottle of Aquafina and told my son, I am about to pour ice cold water on your face. During the chaos of my son screaming, several people had asked if we needed help. I politely and calmly told them, No...he will be okay. Once I finished pouring the bottle, I wiped his face and told him he is going to be fine. He blinked his eyes and said, its better. We drove down the street to a CVS so I could get some milk, and poured half the bottle on his face right outside the store. A passerby asked what was going on, and I explained to her about the milk. She stated she was sorry that happened, but glad she saw what I was doing in the event her kids did the same thing. My son said stated in amazement that he felt so much better and asked if he could drink some just in case he swallowed gas. I explained that would be the perfect thing to do since the poison control center stated that milk is what you drink if you accidently ingest gas from siphoning it. During the ride back home, my 8-year old asked me if I really loved him, because I was so calm like I didnt care. I gently explained to him that I needed to stay calm, so I could calm him down and reassure him that everything was going to be alright; until we could make it alright. Of course I got a big son to mother smooch on the cheek and the best I Love You a Mom could ever ask for. I shared that story to say this to all Mothers out there....when our children are in pain or distress, they look to us to make everything alright. Momma Power is a God-given ability to do that, through voice, touch and even song. My 8-year old in his short lived lifetime has had many a bump, scrape, cut and so forth. The one sure fire thing that works is my calmness. If we were home out of the public eye, I would sing a song to him that I sung from since he 1st open his eyes: You Are My Sunshine. It has worked every time he has screamed from some kind of childhood pain and distress. The brain triggers the memory of calmness and Mommy is in control. So when the situation calls for it, turn into the Wonder Mom that God made and in your calmness of attitude, make the situation alright; as only a Mother can do! Sing to them if thats all you can do...that may be all they need. That is your obligation that Motherhood admonishes you to do. Not only that...but the hugs, smooches and the I Love You is the best part about it. True story...thanks for listening and keep the Faith!
